Community Acupuncture

When acupuncture was brought to the United States, the Chinese tradition of a community treatment room was changed to help gain acceptance in the western world. Patients were treated in the western manner, which is one patient alone in a treatment room. Community acupuncture brings the practice back to its roots and offers people another option in health care.

Community acupuncture setting"Why would I want to have acupuncture with other people around me?" you may ask.

Humans are communal beings. We pray, sing, dance, play team sports, etc. in a group. We do this because it enhances our experience. People who go to community acupuncture clinics really enjoy going for just this reason ~ they prefer acupuncture in a group. This means that husbands and wives can be treated together, as well as parents and children, and friends and acquaintances. There is no doubt about it ~ the group energy enhances the treatment.

Community Acupuncture is also different in the treatment itself. Patients are given a simplified treatment (meaning fewer needles) on the head, and lower arms and legs while relaxing in a reclining chair. There is no need to remove clothing that would require a private space.

Once the needles are in place, patients can sit, relax and disconnect for a while. Soft, serene music or sounds of nature are played to quiet and still busy minds. Expect to drift off to sleep. When you wake up, the needles are removed and you can return to your day’s activities feeling more harmonious, calm and tranquil.
